Heavy rains and floods hit Texas over the holiday weekend leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Flash-flood watches and warnings were issued across seven states early Tuesday. More than a thousand people were evacuated from their homes. On Saturday, the waters of the Blanco River, near the city of San Antonio began to rise at an alarming rate. By early Sunday morning, the river crested at around 43 feet. Surging one point at a rate of 33 feet in just three hours, the raging river broke an all time record set in 1929 by almost seven feet. Over Monday night, nearly 88,000 people in the Houston area were left without power. Some basketball fans who went to see the Houston Rockets take on the Golden State Warriors in game four of the NBA playoffs ended up being stuck in the stadium for hours after the game.
