Twins blasts from the Calbuco volcano, in Southern Chile, darkened the skies on Wednesday afternoon. The eruption created a remarkable display of smoke plumes and ash as the volcano roared to life. The first blast was followed several hours later by a second, which painted the sky in hues of red and orange above the cities of Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt. The volcano also sparked intense streaks of lightning that lit up the rising ash cloud.
